Class Central website enables users to find free online courses from top universities like Harvard and Stanford, thousands of free certificates, and over 250k online courses. The main goal of Class Central company is to make online education and online learning available for everyone. Dhawal Shah is the founder and CEO of Class Central, a search engine for online courses and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

Headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, ClassCentral is a search engine and review site for free online courses, otherwise known as MOOCs or Massive Open Online Courses. It aggregates courses from various providers to find the best courses on any subject easily.

Challenge

ClassCentral approached DevTeam.Space with the task of updating the website’s backend to match its new design and frontend development efforts.

Solution

Our tech account manager conducted a preliminary code review to determine the codebase quality and to estimate the requested work. After the client approved the estimate, our expert PHP backend developer completed the following tasks:

1. Upgrade the codebase dependencies, and fix whatever breaks:
   1. Symfony 2.8 (longterm) or 3.3 (latest)
   2. PHP 7
2. Set up a new production environment on Google Cloud Platform
3. Make it easy to deploy ClassCentral in local environments, i.e., Docker or Vagrant (maybe the production environment can be deployed using Docker)

All tasks have been successfully completed, and the updated version of the website has been released.
